There are two things that can quickly dismantle progress: unrealistic expectations and poor communication.
Honest communication is difficult for the simple fact that it can make us feel incredibly vulnerable. There is no amount of technical expertise that can alleviate those feelings. And it is those feelings, that if not properly understood and managed, that creep in and destroy otherwise fruitful and rich connections.
The dynamics of relationships are complex, involve multiple layers, levels and styles of communication, perceptions, attitudes, beliefs and feelings. It is understandable, then, why relationships can present us with significant challenges, both in the work place in our personal lives. Communication becomes inter-twined with trust and if damaged or non-existent in team relationships the possibility for excellent results can be, understandably, de-railed.
